There are two main features in this slot and they include the Golden Gaze and Multipliers. Above the reels, there is a golden Gorgon (Medusa) and she will hold winning symbols to award a respin as long as new winning symbols land. This is called the Golden Gaze and ultimately continues until there are no new winning symbols.
If you fill the columns with winning symbols from left to right, then a Multiplier will be awarded. Ultimately, this multiplier is equal to the number of columns that are filled.

This is a hold and respin feature that triggers every time there is a winning symbol. It’ll be held in place and continues until there are no new winning symbols.

Filling the columns from left to right with winning symbols awards a multiplier that is equal to the number of columns filled.
Golden Gorgon Review
In ancient Greek myths, the Gorgons were creatures that the heroes often faced. These included Stheno, Euryale and the most popular being Medusa. Yggdrasil decided to base a slot all around this Greek myth with a focus being on Medusa herself.
Golden Gorgon is a mythical slot that plays on 5-reels with 25 paylines. The slot features two main features, one of which includes a respin feature, whilst the other one contains increasing multipliers. Can you defeat the terrifying Medusa, or will you fail victim to her curse?
Design
Situated in a creepy crypt, you’ll find the home of Golden Gorgon. The wall contains carvings of a venomous looking snake that matches with the main villain Medusa. Speaking of Medusa, you can find her on top of the reels with golden snake tails creeping around the reels as well.
In terms of the symbols on the reels, you’ll notice a variety of Greek letters including Alpha and Beta on the reels alongside things you’d expect to see such as Perseus and various weapons he had.
The only real animation in this slot comes from Medusa herself as her eyes light up gold for the feature, but it’s effective enough in creating an atmosphere.
Perhaps, the strangest thing has to be the music as it’s an 80s inspired synth track that feels like it fits better in Stranger Things than it does in a mythical slot. Sure, it’s not awful by any means — but it’s definitely unusual.
Gameplay
The gameplay of Golden Gorgon is pretty standard for an online slot with 5-reels and 25 paylines — but the Golden Gaze feature adds a different level. The hold and respin feature whenever there is a winning symbol is exciting to watch and a welcomed addition to the slot.
Like in most Yggdrasil slots, you can find the relevant buttons at the bottom of the screen. The spin button is in the middle with the autospin and bet level to either side of it. Further to the left, you can find a drop-down menu with further options.
Win Potential
With an RTP of 96%, Golden Gorgon has a decent level that is just above the average standard. In terms of the volatility level, this slot is a high volatility slot with a maximum payout of 2,500x your stake. Whilst this amount may seem lower than expected, players can be between 0.25 to 400.00, so wins could potentially be impressive.
Our Verdict
Golden Gorgon will not re-invent the reels when it comes to mythical slots — but it’s entertaining enough to provide some enjoyment with the simple features. Like most Yggdrasil slots, the visuals are incredible but don’t feel as polished as Dr Fortuno or Hades Gigablox.
The maximum payout is 2,500x your stake (which is low for a high volatility slot) but the bet level can reach up to 400 — so there can be decent wins provided that you have the budget to compensate. Don’t expect a new classic, but definitely play Golden Gorgon if you love simple mythical slots with engaging gameplay.

Golden Gorgon is the upcoming Greek mythology-themed release from Yggdrasil Gaming and will be available on their platform on July 29, 2021. Players may recall that gorgons are mythological female creatures who can kill someone simply by looking at them.
Medusa is the most famous of the gorgons, having had her head removed by Perseus according to the story. But in Golden Gorgon, she’s using her powers to turn symbols into gold instead of turning people into stone.
Yggdrasil is very well established in the gaming world and definitely has the ability to turn out some fantastic games, which is why it’s strange that Golden Gorgon feels so flat and uninspired.
Look and Sounds of Golden Gorgon
Golden Gorgon is remarkably plain Jane when it comes to visual effects. Golden Medusa and her snake hair stare out at players from the top center of the game grid, flanked by marble pillars wrapped in a giant golden snake. The background is a pretty subdued purple wall with more snakes carved into it.
The Golden Gorgon high pay symbols are a shield, a sword, and a Greek hero, all very generic-looking. The low pay symbols are Greek symbols Lambda, Omega, Psi, and Sigma, which admittedly are a nice change from card suits or royals.
The background music for Golden Gorgon is challenging to pin down. It has elements of what might be an Ancient Greece vibe with a bit of a pop Bollywood feel and then some Jamaican tin drums thrown in for good measure. It honestly is a bit of a dog’s breakfast, and it’s unclear what the intention was.
Special Features of Golden Gorgon
Golden Gorgon only has one special feature, and that is the Golden Gaze Respin Feature. When players land three or more matching symbols on a payline, these symbols are turned into gold by the gorgon and become sticky. The rest of the reels respin, and any symbols that match also become sticky. These respins continue until no more winning symbols land on the grid.
Golden Gorgon made one addition to the Golden Gaze Respin. If entire reels are filled with gold symbols consecutively from left to right, then a multiplier is added according to how many reels are filled. For example, if reels one and two are completely filled, then a multiplier of 2x applies. The reels must fill consecutively in order to qualify, which means that filling reels one and four will not give any multiplier.
Final Verdict
Golden Gorgon is not anything special and is likely to become lost in the abundance of new games coming out all the time. Unfortunately, even players who love Ancient Greek Mythology might not be super impressed by Golden Gorgon.
The low hit rate leaves players staring at the spinning reels as they launch over and over again, with nothing to look at that’s even remotely interesting. The background is boring, the music is…weird, and the special features genuinely aren’t all that special. It’s not that the game is terrible, but it’s very simple, and it feels slower-paced than the high volatility would have players believe.
Players who really love the Greek Mythology genre can certainly check out slot, as there are decent wins to be had. However, there are plenty of better games out there with more exciting features that are better to look at and a lot more fun.
