Slot Cops N Robbers 2018 Playn Go — Game Review
Cops ‘n’ Robbers Megaways
Here at Hideous Slots, we love a slot packed full of features for many reasons, not the least of which is that we think it makes for exciting content during Live Streams and videos. Often this is associated with slots with a low variance, not really capable of doing much, like Rick and Morty: Wubba Lubba Dub Dub, but players shouldn’t be mistaken in thinking that just because a slot has a lot to offer in features, it lacks in potential. One great example of this is Centurion Megaways, which contained both 6 bonus features and 6 base features, but has also churned out some huge wins.
This year, Inspired Entertainment have brought us another great selection like this, with Cops ‘n’ Robbers Megaways. Cops ‘n’ Robbers first came into play as a FOBT game, mesmeriseing players with its features, graphics and potential. Fans of Stop and Step will probably have seen the Cops ‘n’ Robbers Chase Bonus one too many times! Inspired Entertainment describe this new slot as “an action-packed slot featuring the iconic Bell-Fruit brand Cops ‘n’ Robbers game mixed with the popular Megaways™ game mechanic […] with its vibrant graphics, innovative gameplay and its immersive outlaw soundtrack will have players on the edge of their seats trying to bag the loot”, and have thankfully not made too many changes to what we know and love from the Arcades. RTP sits at 95.19 – 95.50%, and this slot is described as Medium Volatility.
Cops ‘n’ Robbers Megaways is a standard Megaways set up, with 6 reels, providing 117,649 ways to win. Wins are formed by matching 2 or more symbols across adjacent reels, starting with Reel 1, although all symbols except the top paying symbol require 3+ to award a win. Cops ‘n’ Robbers Megaways is a cascading slot, meaning any winning symbols are removed from the board, and new symbols take their place until no more wins remain. As with any Megaways, any number of symbols can land within each reel, up to a maximum of 7, so any amount of ways up to 117,649 can land on any spin. Symbols available are updated versions of the original, with the low end of the pay table consisting of 10, J, Q, K and A, paying between 0.8x and 1.75x bet for 6 of a kind. Police cars again pay 1.75x bet for 6 of a kind. Wads of cash and red money bags pay 2x bet for 6 of a kind, and the Cop will reward players with 7.5x bet for 6 of a kind. The top paying symbol available is the Cops ‘n’ Robbers logo, paying 2x bet for 2 of a kind, and a whopping 50x bet for 6 of a kind.
Bonzo the Bulldog is the Wild, substituting for all symbols except the Bonus Scatter. He appears on the Extra Reel during the base game, and the main reels in Free Spins. Finally, the Bonus symbol containing our robber Bert acts as the Scatter, and three or more are required to trigger the bonus feature.
Cops ‘n’ Robbers Megaways Base Features
Cops ‘n’ Robbers Megaways offer players Reel Modifiers, which is signified by the police light at the top right corner of the reels flashing either blue or red. If the light flashes blue, a random number of mystery symbols are added to the reels before they stop. Any mystery symbols in view then transform into the same symbol, which can be any symbol except the Wild or the Scatter.
If the police light flashes red, the Red Reels modifier will start, and an increasing Megaways sequence of games will start. Megaways continue to increase through each game until the maximum of 117,649 has been reached. The robber will appear, and if the crossing light is green, will move across the reels. If the robber reaches the right hand reel, extra bonus symbols are added to guarantee a bonus triggering.
Red Reels will end if any of the following occur:
- Maximum Megaways (117,649)
- A Bonus is triggered
- A win 5x or more
Each spin within Red Reels counts as an individual spin, and players will be charged their stake for each of these spins. Should a player alter their stake, Red Reels will not carry over to the new stake, however will remain active on the original stake when players return.
Within the base game of Cops ‘n’ Robbers Megaways, there is a gamble feature, which can be switched off or set to “5x or above“, which means players can gamble any win greater than, or equal to, the value of 5 times their stake. If the gamble is switched on, all winnings will be gambled on one of two wheels, which the player can choose between.
On the left, there is a wheel which allows players to modify the odds to any of three set options:
- Increase winnings by one third.
- Double winnings.
- Triple winnings.
The right hand wheel offers players the chance to win Free Spins, and the amount of spins gambled for can be altered by pressing the +/- buttons. Players need only click on either wheel to place their gamble, but can collect by clicking the “collect” button. If the pointer stops on the red area, the player loses their winnings and returns to the base game, and if it lands on the green area, the cash value or free spins are awarded. The maximum cash value that can be awarded by gamble is £250,000, and the maximum Free Spin award is 25. Once 25 spins have been reached, the wheel is disabled, but players can continue to gamble on the cash wheel. Remember though – all winnings are being gambled every time, which includes winnings from the gamble you’ve just won.
Players can only collect from the wheel the gamble was taken on, meaning it is not possible to gamble cash and collect the free spins equivalent. The expected payback for the gamble game is 100%.
Cops ‘n’ Robbers Megaways Bonus
Landing 3 or more Scatters in view triggers the Bonus Feature, where players have a choice:
The Chase: Reminiscent of the original, classic chase bonus. The robber is allowed 3 moves before the Cop wakes up and starts to chase him. Additional Scatters add 1 to the Cop Snooze Count. The red dice moves Bert the robber around the board, and the blue dice moves the along behind him. Landing on any square adds the cash within it to the total winnings meter. Once you have been caught by the Cop you enter into an I.D Line Up, with 3 possible outcomes:
- Bert: The bonus ends, and any accumulated winnings are collected and added to your balance.
- Sid: Extra compensation is awarded to the total winnings, and you return to the feature.
- Vic: Increases the values in the board squares, and you return to the feature.
Landing in the bottom left square multiplies the accumulated winnings in the “Total Winnings” meter by the amount shown. This multiplier increases by 1 every time it is landed on, up to a maximum of 5.
Free Spins: During the Free Spins feature, every winning cascade increases the multiplier by 1, and any winning combinations are multiplied by the current multiplier at the beginning of the cascade. Bonzo the Wild Dog sleeps in his house at the top right corner of the Free Spins board. He can wake up and walk across the top reel, acting as a wild for all symbols except the Scatter symbol, and moving one position per spin. If multiple cascades occur when Bonzo is in position, he remains until the beginning of the next spin, when he moves again. Once he reaches the leftmost reel and no wins remain, he returns to his house to sleep. If a wild symbol lands directly below Bonzo, all symbols on that reel become wild. Free Spins can be gambled up to a maximum of 25, and each time an extra scatter lands during the bonus, 2 more free spins are awarded.
First Impression
Variations of Cops ‘n’ Robbers have come before, but none have had quite the appeal this slot has. The Chase Bonus appeals to hardcore fans of the original, who want to relive the Arcade moments, but the Free Spins feature appeals to fans of the Megaways mechanic. Inspired Gaming have described this slot as “a medium volatility game […] aimed at the casual online casino player”, so they know themselves they’re not going to entice players who want to chase 100,000x wins with this slot. It’s clear to see that Inspired Entertainment chose to go with their gut on this slot, opting to stay true to the original rather than upgrading and potential fixing what was never considered to be broken. If nothing else, this slot will provide players of all stakes with potentially hours of enjoyment and entertainment, and will still be capable of throwing some huge wins out.

Massive Max-Win
Charming Timeless Design
- Cons

- More innovative Games Out there
Cops N Robbers will look mighty familiar to players who have been at this game for a bit. It is certainly somewhat of a veteran in the business, but still offers remarkably charming gaming options for its age, with a Gamble and Car Chase Bonus to keep you on your toes.
The retro vibe of this online slots game is deliberate and adds more charm to the game, which still manages to compete with some of their newer competition in gameplay, if not in design. With a game called Cops and Robbers, you would expect excitement and it’s certainly fair to say you get that when you play this game.

Cops and Robbers Bonus Features
Despite being from an older generation of gaming, Cops and Robbers still offer a couple of theme-inspired features that will ensure that you get a great experience while playing this game. Both of which will still manage to keep up with the more modern casino games in terms of what they offer the player in terms of lucrative prizes.
As such, don’t let the age fool you, this old dog has some tricks up its sleeve to impress modern gamers.
Cops and Robbers free spins
The most enjoyable part of this game is definitely the Car Chase Bonus, which lets you play the bad guy and is an ideal little feature for a game named like this one is. You trigger it by lining up three or more of the game’s scatter symbols; police cars.
This will enter you into a free spin sequence where wins up pop-up frequently. Every now and then during this free spin round, you will be asked to choose a direction to avoid roadblocks. Complete this effectively and you will double your money at the end, letting you drive off into the sunset with your loot. Awesome.
Gamble feature
As well as the Car Chase Bonus, there is another optional bonus called The Gamble, which you can choose to activate anytime after you win a prize. Simply choose the colour or suit, and if you are right, you can double or quadruple your prize before you entered the game.
You can do this up to 5 times and win up to 2500 coins. However, choose wrongly and you will lose it all.
Wilds
This game also has Wilds in the shape of a vault. These are more beneficial than most Wilds on slots as it will replace all other symbols AND double wins when activated. It even has its own payout too, so it is a triple threat.
Cops and Robbers Jackpot
There doesn’t seem to be a jackpot on this game per se, but what it does offer is a huge max win of 1,303,235, which can be at least partly achieved either via the normal gameplay or by entering the Car chase bonus round and really cashing in. Getting the full thing though would be quite a feat but it demonstrates just how much can be won in theory.
RTP
The RTP of the game sits at 94.4%, which was pretty normal at the time of this game’s release, but is a lot lower than most modern games and lets it down a tad. This is combined with medium volatility too, so it has very average player win benefits. As such, using the Gamble feature might come in handy quite often.
Cops and Robbers Mobile
Despite its age, The Cops and Robbers slot can actually be played on mobile. It is a bit harder to select the options you want as it is not fully optimized but will still do the job.
